Mark G. Fontenot, ME, MBA, DDS
Executive Chairman
Dr. Mark Fontenot brings a wealth of entrepreneurial, executive and dental and medical experience to OroScience. In addition to his leadership role at OroScience, he is currently serves on the Board of Directors for Revenue Management Solutions, LLC (Oklahoma City, Oklahoma), a proprietary web based electronic transactional software company in the US healthcare revenue cycle. Dr. Fontenot was formerly CEO and Chairman of Vascular FX, LLC (Palo Alto, California; interventional neuroradiology), CEO of Pavier Technologies, LLC (San Jose, California; interventional vascular therapy), and CEO of Gabriel Medical, Inc. (Lafayette, Louisiana; endoscopic imaging). Dr. Fontenot has or is participating in other life science and healthcare companies.
Dr. Fontenot holds a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics, Bachelor of Science in Physics, Master of Engineering (Biomedical), and Master of Business Administration all from Tulane University. Dr. Fontenot received his Doctor of Dental Surgery from the Louisiana State University School of Dentistry after which he was the recipient of the National Institutes of Health prestigious Dentist Scientist Award and the John N. Kent Postdoctoral Research Fellowship. Dr. Fontenot was also the recipient of the Edward F. Hatton Award given by the International Association for Dental Research and Mildred Trotter Prize for Bone Research. He has given over thirty invited lectures, published papers and abstracts in the field of biomedical engineering and dentistry. He also has had seventeen issued United States patents and a number of associated foreign issues and pending domestic and foreign applications, all in the medical device, dental, and oral care markets.
Philip Houle
Chief Executive Officer and Director
Mr. Houle has 17 years of business, product development and operations experience in the medical device industry. Prior to joining OroScience, Mr. Houle provided a broad range of product design, testing and manufacturing services to support the early stage research and development efforts of various medical device companies in the San Francisco bay area. Before joining OroScience, he was Director of Engineering for Aptus Endosystems in Sunnyvale, California, a manufacturer of implants to treat Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm. Also Director of Engineering at Corazon, Inc., Mr. Houle formed and managed the research and development team involved with peripheral vascular and open heart surgery based products.
Mr. Houle previously held positions in project management, engineering and development at Heartport, Inc. and DEKA Research and Development Corporation.
Mr. Houle graduated cum laude with a B.A. in Zoology and a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Vermont, attended the University of Vermont College of Medicine and is listed as an inventor on 27 issued and pending U.S. Patent applications. He is a member of the National Association of Corporate Directors.
Curtis H. Roy, DDS
Non-Executive Director
Dr. Roy has 40 years of experience in the clinical practice of dentistry as well as product development and commercialization. Dr. Roy was one of the principals in Pro-Dentec, Inc., which was acquired by Zila, Inc. Dr. Roy has lectured for more than 20 years in over 1,000 seminars in Canada and the US surrounding dental practice management and the integration of techniques and technologies for Oral Care Soft Tissue Management. He is a graduate of Louisiana State University (1964) and Loyola University School of Dentistry (1968). Dr. Roy served two years in the US Army Dental Corps. In 1970, Dr. Roy entered private dental practice. He currently has a multi-specialty dental clinical practice including four general dentists, one periodontist, seven dental hygienists, and a dental laboratory.
